Light up your layout / Illuminazione del plastico

Until now, layout room has alway been lit by a single 100W incandescent light bulb, located in the middle of the ceiling. That's not the best way to light up a layout for operations.
Despite of the fact I read a lot of magazines & books about it (Loco Revue, Model Railroader, Saluti da Ferbach, TTM, I Treni, etc.), I didn't yet have a clear idea on how to light correctly my layout. I did several quotation as well, from different light suppliers, but I could not make a decision.
After the Fremo meeting in Assago (Milan), last January 5th, and after my first visit of the growing layout of Enzo Fortuna (http://valleybeforesilicon.blogspot.it/), I took the decision to quickly move on with this project. The day after, Jan 6th, I went to Bricoman (Turin) and bought 12 fluorescent daylight lamps (4000K), 58W each. I fix them to the ceiling, 90 cm far from side walls, to avoid unwanted shades on the front side of structures and rolling stock.

12 lamps means almost 700W: to save power, I split the electric circuit in 4 districts (3 lamps each = 174W). To turn on/off the light, I placed 4 switches. One switch has been added to turn on/off DCC station.
